The Patients' Rights Act of 2002 was a milestone: for the first time, the patient was placed at the center of the relationship with healthcare providers. Last year, the law was updated, once again positioning Belgium as a pioneer. Professor Tom Goffin (Ghent University) played a key role in the revision of this Patients' Rights Act as president of the commission for the rights of the patient.
At our new years conference, Professor Goffin will provide insights into how these rights are upheld in various healthcare settings and discuss the ongoing challenges and solutions in ensuring that patients' rights are respected and protected.
About the speaker:
Tom Goffin is a full-time associate professor in health law at Ghent University. He is a member of Metamedica, an interdisciplinary research platform focusing on the ethical and legal challenges of technological and digital innovations in health care. He is editor of the European Journal of Health Law. He is member of the Belgian Advisory Committee in Bioethics and expert for the Belgian Superior Health Council.
