Contract research organizations (CROs) provide support to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries in the form of research services outsourced on a contract basis. This service gives clinical trial sponsors flexibility, allows them to focus on specific core capabilities and potentially generate savings. Today’s CRO industry has come a long way since its inception in the late 1970s. It now forms a well-established and still growing part of the research community. With our lecture we want to provide a unique view on both the history and the expected future trends of clinical contract research.
